"International Society for Contemporary Music" World Music Days 2009

Call for Works and Projectsdeadline: 15 June 2008The 2009 edition of ISCM World New Music Days will be held in Sweden between September 24 and October 4. The festival will move through three cities, each with a strong contemporary music profile. The first part will be in medieval Visby on Gotland, the meeting place in the Baltic Sea, the second one in Växjö and the Kingdom of Glass and the last one in Sweden’s gateway to the western seas and the Continent, namely Göteborg. The artistic theme for the 2009 festival is Listen to the World ! The 2009 festival seeks to establish a new position for art music, one as pioneer not only in music, but also in terms of taking responsibility for our world and its development. In contrast to the fact that its artistic quality and expressive breadth have expanded in all directions, contemporary art music has, generally, failed to make itself a part of the cultural and political discourses. We are convinced that this can change. Art music can assume a more prominent position in societal and cultural development.information: www.listentotheworld.se

SCREAM 2008: Piano and Electro-Acoustic Music : by April 14, 2008

The „Southern California Resource for Electro-Acoustic Music“, is sending out a call for composition submissions for this year's edition of their annual festival, SCREAM 2008. SCREAM 2008 will be based around the theme of combined works for piano and electroacoustic works, allowing for various performance techniques, approaches and visual elements. Despite the diverse forms the winning composition may take on, one thing's for sure: Since all submissions must be „new and previously unperformed“, the concert, which will take place at Walt Disney Concert Hall complex in Los Angeles (pictured) in late 2008, will be a world premiere. The Ninth International Conference on Music Information Retrieval will take place September 14-18, 2008 (Sunday through Thursday), in Philadelphia, USA. Since its inception in 2000, ISMIR has rapidly become the premier venue for the multidisciplinary field of accessing, analyzing, and managing large collections and archives of music information. The expansion of the music information retrieval (MIR) community reflects the enormous challenges and opportunities presented by the recent and tremendous growth in available music and music-related data. ISMIR provides a forum for the exchange of ideas between representatives of academia, industry, entertainment, and education, including researchers, developers, educators, librarians, students, and professional users, who contribute to this broadly interdisciplinary domain. Alongside presentations of original theoretical research and practical work, ISMIR provides introductory and in-depth tutorials, and a venue for the showcase of current MIR-related products and systems. To reflect the increased maturity of the event and of the field, this year’s conference introduces several significant changes over recent ISMIR conferences:
